Rosey’s mark campaign which is active now on the KATANA crowdfunding platform makes us dig deeper into the subject of crowdfunding. What exactly is the “reward crowdfunding” model, where it thrives best, where Bulgaria is on the map of that new type of financing?
Crowdfunding – what is it
Briefly, as a combination of microfinance and crowdsourcing, the crowdfunding brings at one place various individuals who separately contribute smaller of bigger amounts of money with the idea of supporting a business enterprise. There are several crowdfunding models, such as donation-based crowdfunding, equity-based crowdfunding and reward-based crowdfunding. The most popular model is the reward crowdfunding which has nowadays become a synonymous of crowdfunding in general. Through the reward-based type of crowdfunding the backer of a campaign most often gets products and services of the company which he has decided to support. We may say that it’s a purchase transaction but that transaction is made through a specific crowdfunding platform and it’s made with a cause. Every contribution aims at two things – one, part of the overall income shall be used for further business development and two, other part of the income goes for covering the expenses of the campaign itself.
The crowdfunding model is developed at its best in countries like USA, United Kingdom, Germany and The Netherlands. The reasons why are various, including for how long the crowdfunding model is present and operational in that country, to what extent a crowdfunding culture is formed and on the degree of willingness and instinct of a society to help others. And whilst in Bulgaria and in Central and Easter Europe in general we are warm people with good hearts who are prone to help a friend or a stranger, in our part of the world the crowdfunding model is still relatively unknown. Only time will show is there a bright future for the crowdfunding in Bulgaria.

In this previous post you can read about how and why we have decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign. The start was given in the beginning of October and the end is fixed for 31st of December 2017. Today we are in the middle of the three-moth campaign duration and we are ready to share the results by far:
