The аdventure called Rose-picking

Ever since being little kids we’ve grown up with the idea that Bulgaria is the home of the most magical and scented rose of them all – the oil-bearing rose Damascena. The Rose Valley is the place, and the towns Kazanlak, Karlovo, and Kalofer are in the epicenter of the whole rose-brewing.  All of these are true facts, but they barely even touch the real magic of the rose-picking process, which is actually the real deal. It’s the main reason behind our endless love for the roses and is the starting point of it all. Why? In the remaining of this article, you’ll find out exactly why – because rose picking is a lot more than just picking flowers. It’s a journey towards happiness and gives you a lot more!

Meeting with the Sun

The rose-picking starts early in the morning, before the sunrise. The reason is that when the sun rays touch the rose flower it starts to spread its valuable aromatic oils in the air and the whole process of picking must happen really fast. As we all know the early morning waking up is not among anyone’s favorite experiences, but how often do you actually wake up to pick oil-bearing roses in a fabulously beautiful valley? The arrival is right before the sunrise just a moment before it touches the ground. You get hit in the senses by the roses’ beautiful fragrance right away. And that thrilling awaiting of the sun that suddenly “explodes” behind the nearest hill. The whole valley wakes up in beautiful colors and the rose flowers on the valley start glowing as thousands of rubies. Pure happiness.

The power of the outdoor labor

The sun is now smiling from up in the sky and the time has come for the actual part of the process – picking the flowers. That’s definitely a task that needs skills and speed. There are a lot of roses on the valley and the time is so little. By noon all of the rose flowers have to be collected in order to keep the quality of the produce. It’s a race! If you aren’t convinced yet and still don’t see the moment of happiness in the process you’ll find out that it is actually a combination of a few (small at first look) components. First of all, it all happens out in the fresh air – a true balm, especially for the city born and raised people and their white lungs. 🙂 Secondly… the feeling of satisfaction from the team efforts. It’s extremely motivating and makes you feel alive when you see that you’re a part of something big. You can feel that the most when you drop your next bag of collected rose flowers and see how many more have been gathered in the meantime. And last but not least – working with your hands. That’s priceless! Especially for people that mainly work in an office, behind their desks or drive a car all day long – the work that you get to do with your own two hands really has a therapeutic effect.

The feeling of satisfaction

СWe already mentioned that the Rose picking process ends around noon. This gives you enough time to actively rest and there it is… all of a sudden – the feeling of satisfaction. We are not sure if it is because we’ve surpassed ourselves and actually woke up at 5 in the morning. Or because we’ve worked really hard during the day… Or because of the thrill that exactly those are the flowers that will, later on, be the active ingredient in our products, and after that in your plate. We blame it on the magic of the rose-picking. And we whole-heartedly wish you get to feel and experience it as well. It’s worth each and every minute of it!
